A young man has lived his whole life in his small village, but for the first time he needs to travel to the big city. So he asks his father for advice. His father says: "Son, the folks in the big city are going to try to swindle you. So I want you to promise me - whatever price they ask, demand half."
So the son promises to do just that and makes his way to the city. Just as he gets to there, it starts to rain. Luckily, he sees a merchant selling umbrellas on the corner.
"How much for an umbrella?"
"40 lira."
"I'll give you 20 for it."
"Ah, well I suppose I can go as low as 20, sure!"
"10 lira!"
"...well I'll barely be making a profit, but fine. 10."
"5 lira!"
"You know what, if you want the umbrella so badly, here, why don't you just take it for free!"
This really throws the lad for a loop. He thinks very hard for a minute and then says
"Two umbrellas!"
